Frequently Asked Questions

šŸ‘€ Program Questions

What are the goals of Made In the Future?

We want to increase the number of underrepresented people who have the skillset, connections and access to take advantage of world-changing and life-changing opportunities in the design and technology fields. We believe that the cultural landscape and economy will benefit from a new class of makers with a formalized skillset to take action on their ideas.

We are starting by helping talented, ambitious and aspiring people who are in "the gap". We believe these people can make significant progress from a program like ours.

Can I apply if I live outside of the United States?

Currently only residents of the United States may apply. We currently do not have the necessary infrastructure to support international fellows at this time.

Who is behind Made In the Future?

The Made In the Future fellowship is created by Tomorrow Looks Bright, a creative ideas holding agency founded by Kristy Tillman.

A wonderful team of people came together to make this possible including:

Stewart Scott-Curran, Branding

Olivia Moore, Creative Technologist

Bianca St. Louis, Director of Operations

What does underrepresented mean?

For the purposes of this program we mean the Black and Brown ethnicities. To be more specific, people of African, American Indigenous, Latinx/Hispanic, and South Asian descent.

Is the Summit virtual or in person?

Due to COVID-19 all of Made In the Future summit sessions will take place virtually. We hope that our future cohorts will actually gather in person.

Do I need design experience to apply?

Yes, however experience can be defined broadly. We are looking for people who have shown a high level of self-motivation to make strides as a designer. We are looking specifically for ambitious people who we feel could make career-building strides during their time as a fellow. Those who have too little experience and would need additional help to achieve a significant career milestone would not be a good fit for this program.

Do I need a degree in design to apply?

No. In fact we encourage boot campers and career switchers to apply.

Which design practices are the most suitable for this fellowship?

Product design (digital), UX/UI, brand/communication design, and creative technologists are best suited for this program.

What happens to fellows after the summit?

The Summit is just the beginning of your Made In the Future fellowship. After the Summit you will be matched with a mentor in a year long commitment meant to advance your design journey closer to meeting major career milestones (individually determined). You will also continue to have access to your fellowship cohort and engagement with the Made In the Future program .

How will Fellows be chosen?

Each applicant will be initially assessed for meeting the requirements of the program. Successful applicants will be asked to complete an interview and a portfolio review as a part of the selection requirements. The final cohort will be assembled by a panel judges from our mentor group.

Please email us should we have a role available we will follow up with you ASAP.

How can I sponsor a Fellow?

If you represent a corporation please email us to discuss bespoke customization sponsorships.

If you are an individual community member who wants to support a more diverse and inspired design industry please go here.

While this is a virtual event, there is still a significant technical, overhead cost and experience cost for our fellows. Each contribution helps to defray some of that cost and ensures our fellows can benefit from the program 100% free of charge.
